It is common that the birthday celebrant makes a wish before blowing out the candles.
Our "cake", a folklore ode inside an IKEA bag filled with a sole and single wish, invokes the demise (Bang!) of Discord, which stands smiling, / In her hand, a scepter royal. / She extends ot, eyes beguiling / Saying, “Take this for you toils” (Dionysios Solomos, Hymn to Liberty, stanza 144).
From the Trojan War’s Apple, over Socrates’ conium and the assassination of Kapodistrias to the present day, Discord, constantly present and always unchanged, identifies the Contemporary Greek. Yes, history does prove that we hold on to the scepter firmly. But enough. May we drop it with a heavy whomp. (Bang!).
